Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has expressed optimism about reaching an agreement for the return of Jadon Sancho on loan from Manchester United.
Discussions between the two clubs focus on a loan deal for the 23-year-old winger, who has struggled to showcase his best form since his £73m transfer from Dortmund to United in 2021.
While reports last week hinted at nearing a completion of the deal, negotiations have extended into the weekend. Updates suggest that there is still no consensus on a loan fee and other financial aspects.

When questioned about the status during Dortmund’s training camp, Watzke confirmed that the decision now lies with Manchester United.
“The issue is no longer with us,” he informed reporters. “We are in good communication with Manchester United. I am cautiously optimistic. We want to bring [Sancho] over, but we are not yet at the point where we can announce results.”
Jadon Sancho initially gained prominence at Dortmund following his departure from Manchester City in 2017. His impressive tally of 50 goals and 64 assists in 137 games turned him into one of the most sought-after talents globally.
After a prolonged pursuit, Manchester United secured Sancho in 2021 for a significant £73m. However, the winger has struggled to find consistent form, managing only 12 goals and six assists in 82 games since his arrival at Old Trafford.
Sancho began the current campaign on the bench for the first three games and was subsequently omitted from the squad for the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal. Manager Erik ten Hag accused him of poor training standards, a claim publicly refuted by Sancho on social media. Despite calls from teammates to resolve the situation, Sancho has opted against rebuilding the relationship with Ten Hag and is now expected to depart for Germany.
