Barcelona president Joan Laporta has reaffirmed midfielder Frenkie de Jong’s commitment to the club, stating that he has no intention of leaving ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
Since his €75m transfer from Ajax in 2019, De Jong has been a key figure for Barcelona. However, his significant market value has made him a potential asset for sale amid the club’s financial challenges. Barcelona attempted to offload the Dutchman to Manchester United nearly two years ago.
Despite ongoing financial difficulties, De Jong’s future, along with other players like Ronald Araujo and Pedri, has remained uncertain. Nevertheless, the player has consistently expressed his desire to stay, a sentiment confirmed by Laporta.

“He is delighted [at Barcelona]. The last thing he would want would be to leave Barcelona. He has told me more than once that he is delighted here,” Laporta stated in an interview with Mundo Deportivo.
Laporta further expressed the club’s satisfaction with De Jong, indicating room for a potential contract extension. “We have [room for a new contract]. We are delighted with him,” he added.
Despite interest from Manchester United and Bayern Munich in the past, as well as ongoing rumors linking him to Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, De Jong’s current contract with Barcelona extends until the end of the 2025/26 season. A proposed transfer to Manchester United in the summer of 2022 fell through due to uncertainties over who would settle an outstanding sum owed to De Jong in deferred wages.
