The boat carrying 34 passengers from Zangoro Bassa-Kukoki Ward terminal to Gijiwa-Kato Ward terminal in Shiroro LG overturned, according to information obtained by DAILY POST.

The boat disaster was confirmed by the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) in a statement signed by Ibrahim Audu Hussani, Head of Information and Special Duties.

Hussaini claimed that water hyacinth and powerful waves were the cause of the accident when the chairman of Shiroro LG and he visited the area. Another element that was found to have contributed to the development was a grafting tree.

He clarified that there were 34 persons on board the boat: 10 adults, 14 children, and 14 women.

According to Hussani, there are currently 24 identified survivors, and attempts are being made to obtain all available information.

He claims that there are still search and rescue efforts underway at the location.

The boat’s six drivers—Dahiru Yusuf, Sa’idu Shu’aibu, Ahmadu Garba, Sa’idu Garba, Abdulaziz Yahaya, and Lukuman Sani—were also recognized by NSEMA.
