In Tuesday’s plenary session, members of the Ogun State House Assembly impeached Speaker Olakunle Oluomo.

While discussing the reasons for Oluomo’s impeachment with journalists, members of the Assembly claimed that Oluomo was embezzler of funds.

The legislators’ representative for the Obafemi-Owode Constituency, Shoneye Damilola Kayode, spoke on behalf of the lawmakers and said, “Oluomo came on board; we never wanted him, but the leadership of the party thought because he was a speaker we should allow him to continue as a speaker.”

We continue to function, but later on we learn that the governor has been providing financial support. He brings memos to the governor, brings everything to the governor, receives funding, and then returns and declares there is no funding.

“Let me give you a good example. The governor gave us money for renovations when we came on board, and Oluomo took the remaining money and embezzled it after giving members part of it.”

For a third term, Oluomo has served as a legislator for Ifo State Constituency II.

Oludaisi Elemide, a third-term lawmaker representing the Odeda State constituency, has been appointed the new Speaker.
