One Kolajo Damilare was found guilty of stealing household items belonging to Razaq Salaudeen in the Abeokuta area of the state and will serve a six-month jail sentence, according to the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
David Ojelabi, the state commandant of the NSCDC, affirmed this over the phone with PUNCH Metro on Sunday.
Ojelabi claims that the prisoner was taken into custody by NSCDC officers at Opeji Division on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at approximately 11 a.m., while the officers were conducting a routine surveillance patrol in the Bode Olude area.

He added that after being questioned, Damilare admitted to stealing Salaudeen’s possessions, which included a refrigerator, a stabiliser, and a security light.
It was determined that Kolajo Damilare entered Mr. Razaq Salaudeen’s compound in order to carry out the heinous deed. When he was about to leave the compound, he vandalized the refrigerator, took out the evaporator, carried the stabiliser, and took out the security light.
“He was being mobbed when the NSCDC officers on surveillance patrol noticed him, and they took him over to the NSCDC for examination and legal action. After that, he was moved to the state capitol.
After a thorough investigation, Kolajo Damilare, the suspect, admitted to committing the crime. He stated that the state commandant of the NSCDC Ogun State Command, CC David Idowu Ojelabi, immediately ordered that he be charged in court as soon as possible.
Using its absolute authority, the NSCDC charged Damilare with one count of theft-related offenses before an Isabo Magistrate Court. Damilare entered a guilty plea and was given a sentence of six months in prison with the possibility of a N150,000 fine.
Then, on Friday, November 17, 2023, Damilare Kolajo was charged in Abeokuta Magistrate Court 1, supported by an order from Ogun State’s Attorney General granting the NSCDC the right to prosecute there.
The accused entered a guilty plea to the single count of theft after the court was presented with evidence and facts.
The head of the NSCDC revealed, “As a result, Magistrate E. O. Idowu (Chief Magistrate) sentenced him to six months imprisonment/fine of N150,000.”
