Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, has authorized a N35,000 salary award for state employees.
At the same time, he gave his approval for the end-of-year bonus payment of 50% of basic salary to all public officials and political appointees, as well as to workers in local governments and council development zones, the Lagos Neighborhood Safety Corps, the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, and local governments.
A circular bearing the reference number CIR/HOS/’23/Vol. 1/ 109 and signed by Bode Agoro, the Lagos State Head of Service, was obtained by PUNCH Online and contained the approval.

The governor authorized the payouts, according to the circular titled “2023 End Of Year Bonus And Implementation Of Wage Awards,” as a way for his administration to recognize the contributions made by public employees to the advancement of the state.
The statement further noted that the end-of-year bonus and the wage award which would be paid alongside December 2023 salary, would be non-taxable.
The statement says, “It is hereby notified for general information that Mr. Governor has graciously approved the payment of 50% of basic salary as an end-of-year bonus for all political appointees and public servants, including employees of local governments and local council development areas, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, and Lagos Neighborhood Safety Corps. This is part of the present administration’s continuous appreciation of the contributions of all public servants towards the advancement of the state and its unwavering commitment to the welfare of its workforce.”
In a same spirit, Mr. Governor has additionally given his approval for the salary award (palliative) to be implemented while the national minimum wage is being reviewed.
As a result, the December 2023 salary will be paid along with the 50% basic salary end-of-year bonus and the palliative wage award as a “non-taxable element.”

Therefore, it is hereby incumbent upon all heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to take notice of the information included in this circular and to publicize it across the whole service.
