Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim has dismissed reports claiming he’s reached an agreement to join Liverpool as their new boss. Earlier this week, German outlets suggested a deal had been struck, but according to 90min, talks with Amorim’s agent have not progressed to that point.
Addressing the rumors during a press conference ahead of the match against Gil Vicente, Amorim made it clear that his focus remains on Sporting CP’s success. He stated unequivocally that there have been no interviews or agreements with Liverpool or any other club.
While Liverpool have reportedly engaged with Amorim’s representatives and discussed financial terms, sources suggest that negotiations are ongoing and no final decision has been made. Any potential move would require Liverpool to negotiate a compensation fee with Sporting, considering Amorim’s €20m release clause for non-Portuguese clubs.

Amorim does have an agreement with Sporting that allows him to depart for €10m if approached by a ‘top European club’, although the interpretation of this term could complicate matters. It’s believed by some that this refers to elite clubs participating in the Champions League, a status Liverpool currently do not hold after their Europa League campaign last season.
The uncertainty surrounding Amorim’s future could also impact Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres, whose agent recently suggested that his client might find it challenging to stay with the club if Amorim leaves this summer.
