Ruben Amorim has arrived at Old Trafford with a burning desire to restore Manchester United to its former glory and a firm belief that he is the right person to lead the team to success.
The former Sporting CP coach was swiftly appointed as Erik ten Hag’s permanent successor just days after the Dutchman’s departure, signing a contract that will keep him at Manchester United until 2027.
His tactical acumen and past achievements have already sparked excitement among fans, and now they can begin to understand the vision he plans to implement at the club.

In his first interview as head coach, Amorim shared his core focus: “The most important thing right now is to establish the principles, identity, and character we had in the past,” he explained to MUTV. “The character—how we fight, how we play—is key. Our team must have a clear identity.
“When our players wear this shirt, they must know they are representing Manchester United. It’s about unity: thinking the same way, defending, playing, and enjoying. This is what drives me.
“We need to start from day one with no fear, no hesitation. I don’t believe in waiting for the players to get used to this style. From the first day, they’ll embrace our idea—that’s the goal.”
Despite his short time in Manchester, Amorim already feels a deep connection to his new surroundings. He expressed his commitment to his role with the Red Devils and hopes his players will share that same dedication.
“I will do everything for the team,” he vowed. “I’ll defend my players, always. That’s crucial for me. I’ll work relentlessly to put this club where it belongs. I have a strong belief that we will succeed.
“I feel a genuine connection with the club. And when I say the club, everyone knows Manchester United, but I’m talking about the people here. It’s vital for me to work with people I feel connected to and who share my values.
“The history of this club is also significant, but right now, what excites me most is the hunger for success that I feel from everyone. This is a place where you can be part of something special, not just another club. That’s something I truly appreciate. It’s a club with a proud history.”
Amorim also took the time to express his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the team, acknowledging the trust placed in him.
“When Manchester United approached me and explained their vision, I was excited. It’s a true honor to be the first choice for this journey. It’s a great responsibility, but it’s also thrilling to be part of this.
“And we know that if the team plays well and wins, everything will fall into place. People will believe in the new ideas and the future. We are the engine of football. In my opinion, Manchester United is the engine of the Premier League.”
