Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has reportedly urged the club to prioritize signing a new left-back in the upcoming transfer windows.
Amorim’s first match in charge ended in a disappointing 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town, where the initial excitement of Marcus Rashford’s early goal quickly gave way to frustration reminiscent of the final days under Erik ten Hag.
The new manager is expected to push for signings in both the January and summer transfer windows, and according to Fabrizio Romano, Amorim has consistently emphasized the need for a new left-back.

In his preferred 3-4-3 formation, Amorim opted to start Diogo Dalot, a right-back, at left wing-back. Although Dalot performed admirably, it was clear that playing a player out of position exposed certain limitations.
As a result, Amorim is said to have informed United officials after the Ipswich game that signing a left-back should be a top priority for 2025.
United currently have two senior left-backs in the squad: Luke Shaw, who came off the bench against Ipswich after a long injury layoff, and Tyrell Malacia, who is working towards a return after an 18-month absence due to fitness issues.
Nuno Mendes of Paris Saint-Germain, who flourished under Amorim at Sporting, has been mentioned as a potential target, along with Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, who has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford.
However, raising funds for new signings could be a challenge, as Amorim is expected to have a more limited transfer budget compared to his predecessor.
