Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has shed light on why previous coaches struggled to replicate Sir Alex Ferguson’s success at the club.
Amorim, who recently took charge of the English giants, faces the daunting task of reviving their fortunes. Since their last Premier League title in 2013, the 20-time English champions have experienced a significant decline, despite hiring some of the world’s most renowned managers.
According to reports cited by the Daily Mail, Amorim believes the key issue lies in post-Ferguson coaches being “stuck in his shadow” rather than instilling his “spirit” into their teams.

The former Sporting CP boss becomes the sixth permanent manager at Old Trafford since Ferguson’s retirement and is tasked with turning around their Premier League performances.
After Ferguson stepped down, he personally endorsed David Moyes as his successor. However, Moyes lasted only 51 games before being replaced by Louis van Gaal in 2014. Despite winning the FA Cup in 2016, Van Gaal was dismissed after two seasons, paving the way for José Mourinho.
Mourinho, regarded as one of the world’s top coaches at the time, won the League Cup and Europa League during his two-and-a-half-year stint but departed in December 2018. Club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjær followed, delivering some memorable performances but failing to secure silverware.
Ralf Rangnick then took over on an interim basis in a turbulent period before Erik ten Hag was hired in 2022. Ten Hag managed to win the FA Cup and League Cup but was dismissed last month due to inconsistent league results.
Amorim’s first test as Manchester United manager comes this weekend with an away match against Ipswich Town, as he begins his mission to restore the club’s former glory.
