Ruben Amorim admitted his Manchester United squad will need time to adapt to his new formation and playing style following their 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town on Sunday.
The Red Devils took an early lead at Portman Road through Marcus Rashford, sparking optimism among the traveling fans eager to embrace the Amorim era. However, a second-half equalizer from Omari Hutchinson denied United all three points, leaving the new manager with mixed emotions after his debut.
Amorim, initially reserved in his post-match comments, later shared his thoughts on the performance.

“It was really hard for them [the players] to adapt,” he told BBC Sport. “They were thinking about what to do, and it wasn’t fluid, which is normal after just two training sessions. But they tried hard. There’s so much space to improve. After a draw, it’s hard to focus on the positives, but I’m happy they tried. They can do so much better.”
Reflecting on the game, Amorim acknowledged the challenges his team faced: “It wasn’t a good result, but this is a tough league with high intensity. We started well but needed to control the ball better. We’re still learning.”
The former Sporting CP manager expressed excitement about working in the Premier League while emphasizing his desire to win. “This league is a great spectacle, and you’re lucky to have the best league in the world. I’m happy to be here, but today, I don’t feel much because I like to win games.”
Manchester United will look to bounce back in the Europa League on Thursday against Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt before returning to Premier League action against Everton on Sunday.
