Roberto De Zerbi has raised uncertainty over his tenure at Brighton & Hove Albion by calling for discussions with the club’s owners.
Despite being contracted until 2026, the 44-year-old has hinted at discord with owner Tony Bloom, particularly following a quiet January transfer window where Brighton made no senior signings, opting instead for teenagers Valentin Barco and Adrian Mazulu.
Reports linking De Zerbi to managerial vacancies at Liverpool and Bayern Munich have put both clubs on alert, with the Italian conceding that he has yet to decide on his future with Brighton.

“I have a different approach to deciding my future,” he stated. “I wish to converse with my club. While I have a contract, the issue isn’t solely contractual; it’s about aligning visions, targets, and plans for the future.
“I haven’t finalized my decision about my future. Although I am bound by a contract, I want to discuss with Tony [Bloom], my club, to understand their blueprint for the future. Then, we’ll decide together without any issues.
“My relationship with the players and fans remains steadfast regardless of the outcome. Our past achievements are indisputable, but I’m keen to retain my ambition and motivation. Football is my life, and I need clarity on the club’s vision and project. If I’m not comfortable or motivated, I cannot stay.”
When pressed on whether he would extend his contract, De Zerbi replied, “At present, no. We haven’t reached an agreement. While the contract is important, it’s just one aspect. The crucial part is the plan. We need to engage in discussions with the club.”
