Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, has stated that his administration’s decisions regarding the political issue in the state were made with peace in mind, not out of fear.
Additionally, he clarified that it was in the interest of peace that Edison Ehie, the factional Speaker of the state House of Assembly, resigned from both the legislature and his job.
At his administration’s inaugural state banquet, which was held on Monday at Government House, Port Harcourt, to commemorate the New Year, Fubara revealed this to the people of Rivera.

According to The PUNCH, during a cease-fire meeting with President Tinubu on December 18, Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, decided on an eight-point agreement.
The President ordered the immediate withdrawal of all legal actions filed by Fubara and his team in relation to the political situation in Rivers State, as stated in the eight-point resolution that was signed following the meeting.
Fubara, his deputy Ordu, Wike, Ribadu, the factional Speaker of the Rivers State Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, Aaron Chukwuemeka, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State, and Tony Okocha, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, all signed the motion.
Among other things, the resolution required Fubara to bring the 2024 appropriations measure before the whole House after he had already brought it to the state’s four-member Assembly.
He urged the people of Rivers to support President Bola Tinibu’s peace effort even as he wished them a successful and prosperous 2024.
Fubara declared that his government will not become involved in any shady political conflict that could jeopardize the state’s bright future development possibilities.
He declared, “We have never made a decision out of fear; rather, we have done it out of respect for our elders and the interests of our people.
“I want each and every one of us to choose peace. We require this calm because the state’s progress, not our interests, is what we want for it.
Therefore, we think about the actions and behaviors when presented with situations like this. Who is going to be hurt? One million supporters will suffer, but Fubara will not.
The governor claimed that respect for elders, not fear, was the reason behind his acceptance of the eight-point resolution after the President’s involvement.
