A contentious social media post by a citizen who identifies as Mani Abubakar, a Christian, has raised tensions in Katsina State.
Outrage has been generated by the Facebook post, which is thought to be insulting to the Prophet of Islam.
It was reported that when some people set Abubakar’s car and home on fire, the situation got out of control.

It is alleged that Abubakar was able to get out of his Babaruga home.
The vice chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Katsina, Muyiwa Segun, said in an interview with a news outlet (not The PUNCH) that the problem has been addressed as a result of the state commissioner of police, Aliyu Musa, acting quickly.
Segun urged acceptance of different religions.

This is not an isolated instance; accusations of blasphemy have led to other violent episodes and even fatalities in Nigeria.
The Sokoto State Police Command launched an inquiry into the killing of a butcher, Usman Buda, by radical Muslims last year on the grounds that he had made a derogatory comment against an Islamic prophet.
The remark was uttered by the butcher at the Sokoto Main Abattoir after a dispute with another trader.
