A recent report indicates that both Arsenal and Chelsea have deployed scouts to monitor the performance of Athletic Club winger Nico Williams on multiple occasions. The 21-year-old, who has already amassed over 100 appearances for his club and is a regular for the Spanish national team, is recognized as one of La Liga’s premier wingers.

Last summer saw considerable interest in Williams when he entered the final year of his contract. However, he opted to commit to Athletic Club by signing a new four-year deal in December, securing his association with the club until 2027.

Chelsea, who previously considered acquiring Williams last summer, may revisit their pursuit, and the potential cost for securing his services could be €50 million (£43 million).

Although Williams’ earlier contract featured a release clause of €50 million, reports from Spain suggest that this figure has not been amended despite his recent contract extension. This situation leaves the possibility open for a summer move away from the club.

Aside from Arsenal and Chelsea, Aston Villa expressed interest in Williams last summer, and additional suitors may emerge if the 21-year-old’s release clause remains at €50 million.

Williams, known for his loyalty to his boyhood club, is unlikely to push for an exit, and his decision to sign an extension is reportedly influenced by a refusal to leave for free. Consequently, any club triggering his release clause may encounter challenges in convincing him to make a move.
