Arsenal’s search for a new sporting director has reportedly led them to consider Paris Saint-Germain’s football advisor, Luis Campos.
The outspoken Portuguese transfer specialist was brought in by PSG as an outside consultant in July 2022, after building a strong reputation at French rivals Monaco and Lille. Both clubs managed to wrestle the French top-flight title away from PSG, thanks in large part to Campos’ eye for talent and recruitment.
Following Edu’s unexpected resignation, Arsenal is believed to be eyeing the 60-year-old as a potential successor, according to Sky Sports. The club is still in the “early stages” of finding a new sporting director, with Edu’s assistant, Jason Ayto, taking on additional responsibilities for the January transfer window.

The report also mentions Bayer Leverkusen’s Simon Rolfes as another candidate, along with Roberto Olabe, whose confirmed departure from Real Sociedad is seen as a potential boost for the Gunners.
Campos, unless he agrees to an extension with PSG, is set to be out of contract in June 2025, just ahead of the summer transfer window. Discussions about potential candidates took place during a U.S. summit with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, club co-owners Stan and Josh Kroenke, and directors Tim Lewis and Richard Garlick during November’s international break.
Campos made a name for himself during his three-year tenure at Monaco (2013–2016), where he masterminded a string of low-cost, high-profit transfers, including the likes of Bernardo Silva, Fabinho, and Kylian Mbappé. Within a year of his departure, Monaco clinched the Ligue 1 title and reached the Champions League semi-finals.
At Lille, Campos’ savvy recruitment helped the club win the 2020/21 Ligue 1 title, with key arrivals like Rafael Leao, Victor Osimhen, and Jonathan David.
While Campos has earned praise for discovering hidden gems at clubs with lower budgets, his time at PSG has raised questions about whether his skills are as effective in the high-stakes, more expensive transfer market—something Arsenal may need to consider as they aim to compete at the top level.
