When asked if the situation could impact the team, James said, “Of course. There’s always a chance that it might not sit well with some people and could cause problems. Until we’re all together in one room, it’s hard to say, but I hope things can be resolved smoothly as we move forward with the season.”
Wesley Fofana, another Chelsea player, criticized Fernandez for his “uninhibited racism” and unfollowed him on social media, although Fernandez has since apologized publicly for the incident.
Chelsea’s preseason began this week with a 2-2 draw against Wrexham.
