Musician is different from an artiste. Artiste can just sing. Artiste na trend. Something dey blow you jump on am, e hot. Musician is different. Fela is a musician. Pasuma is a musician. Burna Boy is a musician, he is not an artiste. Angelique Kidjo is a musician, she is not an artiste. Bella Shmurda is a musician, I am not an artiste. Artiste is just someone that is known for singing. It’s different from someone that is known for doing music. Singing is different from music o! I can sing your song o. You go sing am, I go re-sing am but creating your own sound, being your own self, developing that new sound is the musician thing. And Bella Shmurda is a musician, I’m not an artiste. I just don’t sing. I don’t sing o! I don’t sing for song sake, I don’t sing for hit. Musicians don’t sing for hit. Musicians do music for impact. For longevity. So there’s a difference between a lot of us out there. The goal is to be a pioneer of something. To be a legend in something. Afrobeats, we have Fela is a legend already. We need a new sound.
