In his first return to the Bernabeu since the pre-Covid era, Ramos inspired his team to resist the La Liga leaders for a significant portion of the match. However, a moment of brilliance from Modric, a former teammate of Ramos, proved to be the decisive factor. The Ballon d’Or winner netted the winning goal in the final ten minutes of the game, propelling Madrid eight points clear at the top of the La Liga table.

The game started surprisingly with Sevilla creating the first clear-cut chance. Isaac Romero and Youssef En-Nesyri displayed excellent link-up play, leading to Isaac delivering the ball across the goal to his strike partner. Despite having only the goalkeeper to beat, En-Nesyri couldn’t keep his first-time effort on target, sending it high and wide.

Sevilla thought they had an early lead when Vinicius Junior provided an exceptional assist to Lucas Vazquez. However, after a VAR check, the goal was disallowed due to a foul on En-Nesyri in the build-up.

Despite Madrid’s dominance, they struggled to create clear-cut chances in the first half. Federico Valverde’s long-range curling effort was the only shot on target, forcing Orjan Nyland into a save.

Valverde came close to scoring at the beginning of the second half, hitting the post after connecting with a low cross from Brahim Diaz.

Although Madrid controlled proceedings, Sevilla remained dangerous on the counter-attack. Isaac forced a remarkable reflex save from Andriy Lunin with a volley after a cross from Lucas Ocampos.

In the 80th minute, Real Madrid finally broke the deadlock through substitute Luka Modric. The legendary midfielder showcased his timeless skill, gracefully bypassing Boubakary Soumare on the edge of the box before firing a precise shot into the bottom right corner of the net.
