The seasoned player had been sidelined since the 1-0 victory over Mallorca earlier this month due to a hamstring injury, causing him to miss the Supercopa de Espana finals. Despite being absent from the last four games, the 32-year-old has been included in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for the Almeria match as Real Madrid aims to reclaim the top spot in La Liga from Girona.

Lucas Vazquez, a nine-time Spain international, has provided two assists in the league this season, with his solitary goal securing a crucial 1-0 win against Alaves just before Christmas. While traditionally a forward-thinking winger, Vazquez has been deployed at right-back in all seven of his starts in La Liga and the Champions League this season. Although Dani Carvajal is expected to retain the right-back position, Vazquez’s return adds valuable depth to Ancelotti’s squad.

Despite the positive news regarding Vazquez, key players such as Thibaut Courtois, Eder Militao, and David Alaba remain unavailable, with only Militao anticipated to return later in the season.

Real Madrid faces Almeria, the lowest-placed team in La Liga, and is eager for a strong response at the Bernabeu after being eliminated from the Copa del Rey by city rivals Atletico Madrid on Thursday. Although Madrid fought back to force extra time in that match, Atletico ultimately secured a 4-2 victory, leading Real Madrid to refocus on pursuing the league title and success in the Champions League for the remainder of the 2023/24 campaign.
