Real Madrid secured their place in the Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday evening, despite a somewhat unconvincing 1-1 draw with RB Leipzig.
The first half at the Santiago Bernabeu was notably cautious, with just one shot on target in the opening 45 minutes. Real, holding a one-goal advantage from the first leg, aimed to avoid defeat.
Leipzig displayed a more aggressive approach from the start, with Lois Openda missing an early chance. The Belgian later had another opportunity, firing wide of Andriy Lunin’s left post. Xavi Simons and Openda both threatened for Leipzig, but the first half concluded without any goals.

Shortly after the restart, Openda rounded Lunin but failed to capitalize on the chance. Real’s breakthrough came with 25 minutes left, courtesy of Jude Bellingham’s brilliant through ball to Vinicius, who scored from 12 yards out.
Leipzig quickly responded, as Willi Orban equalized four minutes later. David Raum’s cross found Orban, who redirected the ball beyond Lunin. Despite Leipzig’s late efforts, including a clipping of the crossbar by Dani Olmo, Real Madrid held on to advance to the quarter-finals.
