Mbappe, 23, is rumored to be dissatisfied with French powerhouse PSG right now and to be looking for greener pastures this summer. Erik ten Hag is looking for a new center striker and has mentioned United, Real Madrid, and Liverpool as potential destinations.

Despite having a strong goal-scoring record this season, Anthony Martial has struggled to get playing time. Ronaldo is not getting any younger, and the controversy surrounding his explosive interview with Piers Morgan suggests he won’t play for United again after the World Cup.

Raphael Varane, who transferred from Real Madrid to Manchester United this summer, appears to be settling in during his second campaign in the Premier League after forming a solid connection with Lisandro Martinez before to the latter’s recent injury.

Varane and Mbappe are both on international duty as France prepares for the World Cup. The team under by Didier Deschamps will begin play in Group D on Tuesday against Australia. Both players are expected to play significant roles for France in Qatar, and the competition presents Mbappe, a 23-year-old forward, with a further opportunity to display his abilities on the world stage.

Varane, a United defender, has already urged Mbappe to disregard any outside speculation about his future and make up his own mind.

Varane stated this prior to the Nations League semifinal matchup with Belgium in October 2021: “He (Mbappe) makes the choice. He is mature enough to pick who he wants in his inner circle. He understands what he wants and carries himself with confidence. I’m not supposed to give him advice.”

The goal of United’s summer transfer strategy will still be to sign a long-term center striker, but if Mbappe’s name surfaces, there will be fierce competition.
