Despite a swift start from PSG, it was Newcastle who struck first in the French capital. Gianluigi Donnarumma parried Miguel Almiron’s attempt into the path of Alexander Isak, who confidently hammered the ball home from close range, giving the Magpies the lead at halftime.

In the second half, PSG created numerous opportunities but relied on a controversial 98th-minute penalty from Mbappe to prevent Newcastle from clinching a memorable victory in Paris.

Eddie Howe stuck with an unchanged lineup from the weekend’s win against Chelsea, grappling with injuries that have depleted his squad. Aware that a defeat at the Parc des Princes would eliminate them from the Champions League, Newcastle weathered an early PSG onslaught, with Nick Pope denying Mbappe’s near-post flick.

Despite PSG’s dominance, Isak missed a golden opportunity for Newcastle in the opening minutes. Nonetheless, he redeemed himself in the 25th minute, capitalizing on Donnarumma’s parry from Almiron’s shot.

Newcastle’s opener subdued the home crowd, and Pope’s impressive saves kept PSG at bay in the first half. Although PSG struggled to regain momentum after halftime, they created significant chances, with Ousmane Dembele testing Pope’s reflexes.

As the pressure mounted, PSG missed several opportunities, including a brilliant save by Pope from substitute Bradley Barcola. The breakthrough finally came in the eighth minute of stoppage time when a contentious handball decision against Livramento awarded PSG a penalty. Mbappe converted the spot-kick, salvaging a late draw and breaking Newcastle hearts.
