The attacking player for Paris Saint-Germain who declared that the World Cup in Qatar would be his final has been benched.

According to National French Football News, Messi will sit out the UEFA Champions League match against Benfica after sitting out the Ligue 1 match against Reims owing to a slight calf issue.

Given how brilliantly the Argentine has played this season across all competitions, his injury will be a major setback for PSG. Given that neither club has suffered a defeat in the Champions League thus far, the match versus Benfica on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, will be challenging for both teams.

In the summer of 2021, Messi left Barcelona and signed for PSG as a free agent. His first season was difficult for him because he only managed to score 11 goals across all competitions. However, this season has been great for him because he already had eight goals scored before the January transfer window.
