One of our correspondents was informed by a police source that the two thugs had approached the deceased on Saturday morning and demanded N5,000 from him in order to permit him to proceed with building the little fence.
According to the source, “The deceased was approached by two suspects who demanded money (owo omo onile). When he refused to comply, they hit him with planks, causing him to slump.”
“One of them offered to drive him there right away, and they took him to a nearby medical facility.” Because of the injuries he had incurred in the attack, they were sent from the medical center to the General Hospital, Gbagada.
But when they got to the hospital, they were informed that Ali had been brought in dead by the physician.
Bode Adebayo, a local, went on to say that “the suspects abandoned their vehicle and fled.”
He revealed that there might be more to Ali’s murder than merely building the barrier. “Adebayo stated that Ali is the son-in-law of a woman who has expressed her opposition to the demolition in Oworonshoki and has not been well-liked by some people.”
PUNCH Metro was also informed on Tuesday by a senior officer at the Oworonshoki Police Station that “the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department” on Monday.
In a late-night conversation,Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the event and stated that he was aware the culprits had made their getaway.
“The last update was that the suspects escaped,” he stated. The males got out of their car and fled.
“Yes,” he answered when asked if a manhunt had been started for the suspects.
