Pep Guardiola provides an injury update for Erling Haaland for the Chelsea Carabao Cup match

Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has discussed the type of team he will field against Chelsea on Wednesday night in the Carabao Cup third round.

In the round of 16 of the Champions League, Chelsea will face Borussia Dortmund.
Erling Haaland’s fitness is “not great yet,” according to Pep Guardiola, before of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup third-round match between Manchester City and Chelsea.

In recent weeks, Haaland has been battling an ankle ligament issue. Due to the issue, the 22-year-old striker missed Man City’s games against Leicester City and Borussia Dortmund. However, he came back and scored in the 2-1 victory over Fulham on Saturday.

Prior to Chelsea’s visit to the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, Guardiola updated the media on the Norwegian.

“He isn’t yet faultless. Tomorrow will tell, “said Guardiola. “The fact that the bone is not shattered is crucial. His ligaments had some minor injury. He is, nevertheless, improving every day. See what occurs after a week or ten days. He plays for Norway if he is feeling well.”

Guardiola was also questioned about City’s strategy for a match. It’s the last round of matches before a brief vacation from club football to prepare for the FIFA World Cup, which will begin in Qatar in 12 days.

When questioned about his strategy, the Man City manager responded, “I don’t decide, we have training this afternoon. Up until tomorrow night, we have time.

“The coaches get ready for the game to be won. As good a performance as possible [must be] given.

Kyle Walker will miss the match for City due to injury, and Guardiola simply responded “no” when asked if he has a chance. He was then questioned regarding Walker and Kalvin Phillips’ prospects of being selected for the England World Cup roster.

“Gareth Southgate will have to be questioned. I am unable to tell you, the Man City manager said. They have exchanged messages with the England physios. Yes, Phillips will be with the team.
