Pep Guardiola has called on his Manchester City squad to rethink how they use Erling Haaland as they aim to end their disappointing run of form.
City have won just one of their last 12 matches across all competitions and have dropped to seventh in the Premier League standings, with Haaland also experiencing a lean spell in front of goal. The Norwegian striker has scored only three times in his last 12 league appearances, after netting 10 in the previous five matches. Guardiola acknowledged the need for his side to change their approach to scoring.
“Itโs about us, itโs not just about one player,” Guardiola said. “When Erling was so prolific, it was because of the team. When we have problems at the back and in the middle, itโs about the team, not just one player. If it were about one player, it would be easy to pinpoint the reason why. Itโs not just that.

“Erling is crucial for us and will continue to be. We need to use him better.”
Guardiola also admitted he is still searching for a solution to the team’s struggles but praised his players for their relentless effort to improve their situation.
“This situation is new for all of us,” he said. “Itโs about everyone. The players are running and giving more effort than ever.
“People say weโre not running, fighting, or point fingers at this player or manager โ but itโs not about that. Itโs about many small or big details that have made us not as good as we were. But we have another chance on Boxing Day, and with players returning, weโll improve.”
