Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, has promised to carry out the comprehensive presidential peace deal in its entirety in order to end the state’s continuing political turmoil.
The governor reiterated his view that there is no price too high for peace to prevail in the area on Monday in a statewide broadcast.
“As a principal participant in the entire saga, I have studied the terms therein for some time and have concluded that the peace pact is not as bad as those who are genuinely opposed to it are portraying it to be,” he stated.

He continued by saying that the peace accord, which has understandably caused conflicting feelings among citizens nationwide, is a step toward enduring peace and stability rather than a death sentence.
Accordingly, I reaffirm my acceptance of the presidential peace proclamation and my commitment to implementing both the spirit and letters of the declaration in such a way and manner that will restore political stability to our dear state without compromising the collective interest of our people and our cherished and shared democratic values.
“With the withdrawal of the alleged impeachment notice on the part of the government and the release of the previously withheld allowances of the members of the state House of Assembly, both parties have already demonstrated some good faith in the implementation process,” he said.
The governor expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his involvement and said that it was a sign of his great love for the state.
“Yes, with his Presidential Peace Proclamation on December 18, 2023, our dear President has shown that he loves Rivers State and cherishes nothing short of a reign of perfect peace in our state,” he declared.
During his speech during the Christmas celebration, Fubara asked the people of the state to follow the example set by Jesus Christ, stressing the significance of the teachings of the man about selflessness, true love, and forgiveness.
With any luck, the majority of our projects and programs, including the Ahoada-Omoku Road, the Emohua-Degema Road, the Port Harcourt Ring Road, and the Andoni section of the Unity Road, will be completed by 2024.
