Five candidates for the Edo State gubernatorial election purchased candidacy and expression of interest forms, earning N175 million for the Peoples Democratic Party.

According to The PUNCH, the state governorship election is scheduled for September 21, 2024, by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The PDP announced a schedule of events for the election, stating that the congress, where its candidate for governor will be chosen, will take place on February 22, 2024.

As a result, the PDP started selling nomination and expression of interest forms to party members hoping to be elected governor of Edo on Wednesday in Abuja.

The nomination form costs N30 million, and the expression of interest form costs N5 million.

A candidate is supposed to pay N35 million in total.

Five candidates have already paid for the forms, bringing N175 million into the PDP’s coffers.

The first PDP candidate from Edo to pick up the forms at the party headquarters, Wadata House, Abuja, on Wednesday was Blessing, the daughter of Chief Gabriel Igbinedion.

Other candidates that selected the PDP nomination and expression of interest forms on Thursday include Anslem Ojezua, Felix Akhabue, Asue Ighodalo, Philip Shaibu, the deputy governor of Edo State, and more.
