Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory, has praised Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, for their performance in the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Despite a 74-88 quarter-final loss to the USA, Kingibe highlighted D’Tigress’ remarkable resilience and determination. She noted, “Your fearless and gallant performance, especially your comeback in the 4th quarter against one of the most heavily invested teams, exemplifies our collective unyielding spirit.”

In addition to celebrating D’Tigress, Kingibe underscored the significance of cultural heritage, referring to the National Arts Theatre in Lagos as a symbol of Nigeria’s rich history and creativity. The basement of this iconic building houses invaluable artistic treasures reflecting our nation’s diverse cultural heritage.”

The senator urged the creative economy and tourism sectors to document, preserve, and protect these artifacts for future generations. She called for collaborative efforts to promote cultural heritage, support artists and athletes, and unlock the full potential of Nigeria’s creative economy.

“We owe it to ourselves, our children, and future generations to preserve and celebrate our rich cultural legacy, just as we honor the achievements of our heroes. Together, we can build a future that respects our past and inspires the next generation,” she concluded.
