The news that Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the acting governor of Ondo State, had blocked the accounts of the state’s eighteen local governments has been refuted by the acting governor’s office.
According to information obtained, the chairmen whose names Governor Rotimi Akeredolu submitted to the state House of Assembly for review and approval had been sworn in but hadn’t yet taken up their positions.
In order to achieve this, they allegedly received an unapproved text message, allegedly from the acting governor’s office, instructing them not to meddle with the local governments’ budget.

“Distinguished HOLGAs, Your Excellency the acting Governor of Ondo State has directed that all spending/expenditure from local government account should be suspended, no check signing, no change of signatories, no withdrawal of any kind until further directive,” stated the message provided to Sunday PUNCH. Please follow instructions to the letter and follow your intuition.
On condition of anonymity, a senior member of staff in the acting governor’s office verified the accuracy of the text message but refuted the media report circulating that said Aiyedatiwa had stopped the local government councils’ accounts.
He said that the decision was issued as a result of the current court ruling appointing the interim chairs.
