On Wednesday, social media revealed another letter purportedly written jointly by two cult groups, Neo-Black Movement, also known as Aye, and National Association of Airlords, also known as Eiye Confraternity, pleading with Oba Adewale Babatunde Ajayi, the Akarigbo and supreme ruler of Remoland, Ogun State, to pardon them for their transgressions. This is the second letter in a month.

The letter also contained denials from the cult groups regarding their role in the recent murder of Chief Abiodun Folarin, the Basogun of Itunsokun, Sagamu, a high chief of the Akarigbo.

Because of the crucial role the High Chief had been playing in clearing the town of the threat, some community members had insisted that he was killed by the cultists.

The letter headed “Letter of Apology” is partially written, “We, the above-named confraternities, wish to apologise again to the Akarigbo and Paramount ruler of Remoland.” It is addressed to the Akarigbo and other traditional rulers and chiefs in the Sagamu community.

“May we also use this medium to let the paramount ruler and other traditional rulers in Remoland know that we know nothing about the killing of Basogun and we condemn the barbaric act in all sincerity. Long may you reign, the Akarigbo of Remoland,” the apology letter was jointly written to reassure our king and the entire Sagamu community of our readiness to peacefully coexist and to abide by the Sagamu community’s rules and regulations. When PUNCH Metro asked if the palace of Akarigbo had received such a letter, the Baamofin of Remoland, Otunba Bayo Onafuwa, responded, “We saw it like everyone else. Can’t verify the genuineness.”
