Former Nigerian football star, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, holds a strong belief in the potential success of his compatriot, Samuel Chukwueze, who recently made a move from Spanish side Villarreal to AC Milan in Italy.
AC Milan’s manager, Stefano Pioli, made the decision to start Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze for the first time against Newcastle United, marking his debut for the club since his transfer from Villarreal. Chukwueze had gained fame during his five productive years at Spanish La Liga’s Villarreal. However, his transition to Italian Serie A with AC Milan has not seen immediate success.
While Chukwueze was a regular starter at Villarreal for the past three seasons, he has assumed a backup role at Milan under coach Stefano Pioli. The 24-year-old talented winger has appeared in six out of seven Italian Serie A games this season, all as a substitute, indicating his limited impact at the club.

This trend may persist in the upcoming UEFA Champions League group stage match against Borussia Dortmund at Signal Idunna Park on Wednesday.
Despite Chukwueze’s challenging start with the Rossoneri, Jay Jay Okocha firmly believes that AC Milan made the right choice in bringing the Nigerian international to the club. The 1994 African Cup of Nations champion and 1996 Olympic gold medalist in Atlanta is convinced that Chukwueze possesses the qualities necessary to thrive at the Milan-based club.
Okocha expressed his confidence in Chukwueze’s abilities, stating, “He’s been outstanding in recent years now. He’s facing a new challenge, and it’s all about how quickly he can adapt. Communication is always important due to language differences, but there’s no doubt about his talent. I think he’s a valuable addition to the Milan team, and I have no doubt that he will excel.”
