Anthony Gordon has officially joined Newcastle United from Everton, making him the club’s second most expensive acquisition.
There have been rumors about the England Under-21 international wanting to join St James’ Park all week.
Gordon was allowed to miss Everton practice on Tuesday, but not on Thursday, and it’s been reported that on Friday, Gordon practiced separately from the main team.
Nevertheless, negotiations between the sides remained ongoing, with Everton at one point seeking about £50 million for the academy graduate.
Fabrizio Romano, a transfer analyst, claims that the two clubs ultimately settled on a £40 million cost, with a further £5 million due in add-ons down the road.
The length of the 21-year-alleged old’s long-term deal with the North-East team has not been made public.
The 21-year-old stated in a statement to NUTV: “Ever since I heard of the interest, I’ve been certain Newcastle is the place for me.
“I believe that to be a significant step. People haven’t yet seen my full potential. I believe I can really succeed here under the boss and with the direction the team is taking.
Chris Wood, who was permitted to join Nottingham Forest earlier in the January transfer window, is replaced by Gordon at Newcastle.
Gordon has had a poor season despite the big price tag, netting just three goals in 16 Premier League appearances in 2022–23.
However, Gordon played a significant role in keeping Everton in the Premier League last season. With 78 appearances, he leaves the Merseyside club with seven goals and eight assists.
Gordon expects to be part of the lineup on February 4 when Newcastle United takes on West Ham United in the Premier League.
