A viral video showing Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, wearing the sacred Aare crown during the Olojo festival has sparked mixed reactions on the internet.

Following the release of videos from the Olojo festival, reports have revealed that the Ooni of Ife observed a 7-day fast without food, and the Aare crown he wore weighs 50 kilograms.

The Olojo Festival is an ancient annual celebration in Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. It holds significance as one of the prominent festivals in Yoruba culture, commemorating the memory of “Ogun,” the deity of Iron, believed to be the first son of Oduduwa, the progenitor of the Yoruba people.

The Yoruba word ‘Olojo’ translates to ‘The Day Of The First Dawn,’ signifying the appreciation of humanity towards God’s creation and the existence of humans. Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi has described it as a festival that celebrates the Black race worldwide.

In the video, it was evident that the Ooni of Ife appeared fatigued, as he struggled to move while wearing the sacred Aare crown during the Olojo festival in the ancient town of Ife.

An Instagram user identified as randyradiolover’s wrote; “The sacred Aare crown is the only physical symbol of authority that the Ooni inherited from his ancestors. It is believed to have been made from several items, such as cutlass, hoe and 149 other undisclosed objects.it is believed to carry so much power that only the chosen one should and must wear it.History has it that once it is worn by the king his powers are renewed and a refreshen strength to rule the people in truth.”
