Comrade Joe Ajaero, the national president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), described on Friday what happened to him when he was attacked last week at a scheduled workers’ rally in Imo State by thugs and members of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
Ajaero described the incident to reporters at the Pascal Bafyau Labour House in Abuja. He claimed that State Police Command officers had detained him, beating, blindfolding, and dragging him across the ground like a criminal.
The labor leader also refuted reports that the demonstration in Imo State was political, stating that his purpose was to express his opposition to the inequitable treatment of Imo workers in the workplace and their rights being violated.

He made it clear that the scandal involving the NLC and the state government during the governor Hope Uzodimma administration occurred before he was appointed national president of the NLC.
Nevertheless, Ajaero declared that the labor movement will not be discouraged from ensuring that workers’ rights were upheld in spite of the abuses inflicted upon him.
“The policeman arrested me, hit me with all kinds of tools, and asked me why I was challenging Hope. They also told me to say my last prayer. They then took me to a place they called Njoaba River, and that’s where they threw me,” the guy claimed.
