A Year of Milestones for Lookman
Lookman played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s journey to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final and made history with a hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League final, leading Atalanta to their first-ever European trophy.
His achievements also secured him a spot in the 2024 Ballon d’Or top 20 and a nomination for FIFA’s The Best Forward of the Year award, making his CAF triumph an undeniable choice.
Joining Nigeria’s Elite
Lookman becomes the sixth Nigerian player to win the CAF African Men’s Footballer of the Year award, following in the footsteps of Victor Osimhen, last year’s winner.
Before Osimhen’s victory in 2023, Nigeria had waited 24 years since Nwankwo Kanu’s 1999 win. Kanu remains the only Nigerian with two CAF African Player of the Year awards, while Victor Ikpeba, Emmanuel Amuneke, Rashidi Yekini, Osimhen, and now Lookman each hold one.
