According to the Federal Government, British American Tobacco, Nigeria Limited, and its affiliated companies would forfeit $110 million for violations.

Following the Commission’s protracted violations against BAT and its affiliated entities, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission made this announcement in a statement posted on its X page on Wednesday.

In order for BAT Parties to fulfill their obligations under the Consent Order, the Commission dropped all pending criminal proceedings against BATN and one or more of its employees for trying to obstruct an investigation.

Recall that on August 28, 2020, the Commission opened a formal investigation into British American Tobacco Nigeria Limited and other related companies (BAT Parties).

The Federal High Court issued an Order and Warrant to the FCCPC following the receipt of reliable information regarding BAT’s infringement.

The Commission carried out simultaneous and contemporaneous searches and seizures at the addresses of several BAT Parties as well as a service provider on January 25, 2021.
