As reported by the Daily Post, ECOWAS leaders have convened in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, for an urgent meeting to address the recent coup in Niger. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Chairman of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, will be leading this significant meeting at the Presidential Villa, commencing shortly.
It’s noteworthy that various distinguished African leaders, such as Gen Mahamat Kaka, the transitional President of Tchad, President Umaro Mokhtar Sissoco of Guinea-Bissau, President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé Eyadéma of Togo, and President Alassane Ouattara of Côte d’Ivoire, have already arrived at the venue for the meeting.
Indeed, President Tinubu has made it clear that ECOWAS strongly opposes political unrest and coup attempts in Niger or any other African nation. Despite this, reports indicate that the military has indeed taken control in Niger. The gathering in Abuja is specifically aimed at addressing this critical situation and determining the necessary actions to be taken moving forward.
