Following a series of positive results leading up to the international break, Chelsea experienced a humbling 4-1 defeat at the hands of Newcastle United on Saturday.

The early goal by Alexander Isak was countered by Raheem Sterling’s impressive free-kick in a lively first half, leaving the outcome uncertain. However, two critical moments in the 60th minute shifted the momentum decisively in favor of Newcastle. Jamaal Lascelles’ header regained the lead for the Magpies, followed by an unfortunate error from Thiago Silva, gifting Joelinton another goal.

The game’s narrative unfolded with Newcastle taking the lead 13 minutes in, as Isak capitalized on a well-executed play by Lewis Miley. Chelsea responded with Sterling’s superb free-kick, leveling the score.

Joelinton missed a golden opportunity to put Newcastle back in front, while Enzo Fernandez’s powerful shot tested Nick Pope. Newcastle’s goalkeeper had a nervy moment with a poor clearance, narrowly escaping punishment from Gallagher.

The first half concluded with Kieran Trippier’s free-kick hitting the bar, adding to the excitement of an evenly matched half.

The second half commenced with less intensity, but the 60th-minute eruption at St James’ Park saw Lascelles’ headed goal and Thiago Silva’s costly mistake, leading to Joelinton’s clinical finish and a 3-1 lead for Newcastle.

To make matters worse for Chelsea, captain James was shown a second yellow card with 20 minutes to go, effectively ruling out any chances of a dramatic comeback.

Former Blues target Gordon rubbed salt in the wounds with a late strike which by no means flattered Newcastle, who dominated the second half and watched Chelsea implode.
