Alhaji Safiyanu Andaha, the chairman of the Akwanga Local Government Area in Nasarawa State, and his companion, Adamu Umar Tanko, were abducted. The kidnappers have demanded N50 million as ransom to free them.
This information was provided to our correspondent in Lafia on Tuesday by a family source who pleaded for privacy.
The insider clarified that talks between the kidnappers and the chairman’s family were still going on.

The head of the Akwanga council and his closest friend, philanthropist Adamu Umar Tanko, also referred to as Adamu Custom, were abducted on Monday night.
According to Haruna Kassimu, Special Advisor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to the Nasarawa State Governor, they were abducted on Monday night at approximately 8:30 p.m. from Ningo village on the Akwanga-Andaha Road.
DSP Ramhan Nansel, the State Police Public Relations Officer, acknowledged the development as well and reaffirmed that the police, working with other security agencies, were actively pursuing the kidnappers in order to secure the release of the victims.
