Moises Caicedo has disclosed that a conversation with Enzo Fernandez played a pivotal role in his decision to opt for Chelsea over Liverpool this summer.
Despite initial negotiations between Chelsea and Brighton, with several unsuccessful bids, Liverpool made the first move by agreeing to a transfer fee for Caicedo during the summer transfer window.
Nevertheless, Caicedo chose not to engage in discussions with Liverpool, directing his attention solely to Chelsea. He patiently awaited the Blues to eventually finalize a British-record fee of £115m to secure his move to Stamford Bridge.

While Caicedo’s agent had previously cited his commitment to Chelsea, another influencing factor emerged in the form of Chelsea’s former record signing, Fernandez.
Fernandez recounted, “I called and advised him to accept the offer and join because Chelsea is a remarkable and ambitious club. I am grateful to God for the opportunity to play alongside him at Chelsea. We all recognize his exceptional playing abilities, but he is also an outstanding person. I appreciate that he chose Chelsea.”
Regarding the impact of the conversation, Caicedo elaborated, “It was a delightful conversation. I mean, receiving a call from a world champion, one of the finest midfielders globally… it was a pleasant experience, and he persuaded me to join here.
“He emphasized that it’s a fantastic club with numerous young players and a strong sense of unity. I’ve always valued the camaraderie within a team because I believe that with such unity, we can navigate through any challenges we encounter—pressure, and everything else. That’s what inspired me to choose to come here.”
“Now, I find joy in playing alongside him, both in training and during rondos. We’re always in sync. So, I’m extremely happy, and I strive to improve every day, as Enzo suggested, aiming to set a positive example for everyone at the club.”
During their appearance on Sky Sports’ Big Interview, the duo expressed their confidence in Chelsea’s potential to reclaim their status as one of the Premier League’s top teams. Both Caicedo and Fernandez are determined to etch their names in the club’s history for all the right reasons.
“I aspire to secure numerous trophies with this club, including the Champions League and the Premier League,” stated Caicedo. “I want to clinch every possible trophy and be part of the generation that cements history with this club because it boasts a rich history, and now there’s a new generation. Our collective goal is to amass numerous trophies and leave an indelible mark.”
Fernandez added, “I achieved considerable success at a young age and in a short time as a professional, but that’s in the past. I’ve already moved beyond that, and now we’re focused on pursuing more. My purpose here is to continue winning trophies at the club level, which is paramount, and I hope we’ll secure numerous titles at Chelsea.”
