Moises Caicedo has acknowledged grappling with the burden of his British-record transfer fee at Chelsea. The Blues shattered their own previous record, set with the £107m signing of Enzo Fernandez, by securing Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion for an astonishing £115m in a high-profile transfer battle with Liverpool last summer.
Despite the hefty price tag, the 22-year-old faced a slow start at Stamford Bridge and admitted to feeling the pressure on his shoulders. Caicedo revealed his initial struggle, stating, “At the beginning, I felt the pressure. In my mind, I wanted to show my best football and why the club paid the money for me.”
However, he added that discussions with supportive individuals helped him understand his worth, stating, “After that, I started to speak with people who helped me understand that if Chelsea signed me, it’s because I am worth it. I have kept on playing, and I know I have to show my best on the pitch.”

Acknowledging the challenges of adapting to a new environment, Caicedo emphasized his focus on the game and continuous improvement. He commented, “It’s my first season at Chelsea, so it’s normal that it took some time, and I am learning in every game.”
Former Chelsea midfielder Claude Makelele, who departed his mentoring role for the Blues’ youngsters, advised Caicedo to enhance his on-pitch IQ to fully justify the significant price tag.
