West Ham United’s Mohammed Kudus has disclosed that he turned down offers from Arsenal and Chelsea to join the east London club, drawn by their long-term vision.
Since his £38 million move from Ajax in the summer, Kudus has made an immediate impact at London Stadium, netting 13 goals in 34 appearances for the Hammers across all competitions in the 2023/24 season.
Although David Moyes expressed interest in Kudus, he wasn’t the only manager eyeing the Ghanaian international last year. Brighton had agreed on a club-record fee with Ajax, while Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United were also keen on the 23-year-old.

However, before Saturday’s 4-3 defeat to Newcastle at St James’ Park, Kudus revealed that he followed his instincts in deciding to sign for West Ham.
“I was ready to take that step after my successful season at Ajax. I’m not one to remain in my comfort zone. I could have stayed at Ajax, a league and club I was familiar with, but I didn’t want to become complacent. I always seek to challenge myself,” Kudus told The Guardian.
While confirming interest from several clubs, Kudus explained, “When West Ham approached, things progressed swiftly, and I based my decision on discussions with individuals associated with the club, their vision, and their perception of my role as a player.
“My decision was instinctual. That’s how I make my choices, regardless of the consequences.”
Kudus notched his seventh Premier League goal of the season against Newcastle on Saturday, adding to his four assists in 25 appearances. He forms part of an exciting attacking lineup alongside Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta for West Ham.
