Former Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel, has disclosed his efforts to persuade Victor Osimhen to choose Chelsea over Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Manchester United.
Osimhen reportedly inked a new contract with the Italian club in December, extending his stay until 2026. Sky Sports Italy reported that the 25-year-old now has a release clause in his contract, valued at approximately £104 million-£113 million.
Various top European clubs, including Chelsea, have shown interest in securing Osimhen’s services. Mikel revealed that he has advised Osimhen to reject offers from PSG and Man United and instead follow in his footsteps by joining the London-based club.

Speaking to Ben Jacobs at the Web Summit Qatar, Mikel expressed optimism about the potential move, saying, ‘I think there is genuine interest between both. I think he loves the club, he wants to come to the club. Obviously, he wants to follow my footsteps as a Nigerian player who has played for Chelsea – Victor Moses, Celestine Babayaro, not a lot of us.’
In a light-hearted manner, the Chelsea legend quipped, ‘I’m still Osimhen’s agent, trying to get him to Chelsea! I’ve got 20 per cent of that deal, so I hope it works out!’
Mikel, who earned 89 caps for Nigeria during his playing career, made the move to Chelsea in 2006 from Norwegian side Lyn. The defensive midfielder went on to feature in 372 matches across all competitions for the Blues, securing two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, and the Champions League in 2012.
