Former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, disclosed that he departed from Chelsea based on advice from his former teammate, Didier Drogba.
Mikel Obi had a falling out with the newly-appointed manager at the time, Antonio Conte, when he opted to represent Nigeria at the Olympics. Upon his return to Stamford Bridge, the Nigerian found himself sidelined by Conte.
Despite Conte’s later attempts to reconcile and reintegrate Mikel Obi into the team during a rough period for Chelsea, the midfielder declined the offer.

“Conte called me to his office and asked me to play again. I said, ‘No, thank you very much. I have already made up my mind I wanted to go anyway,'” Mikel Obi shared on the Vibe with Five podcast.
He sought counsel from Didier Drogba, who advised him to make a change when such situations arise. Acting on this advice, Mikel Obi decided to leave Chelsea and eventually joined the Chinese club Tianjin TEDA.
