John Mikel Obi has chosen not to blame Victor Osimhen for his social media outburst directed at former Super Eagles head coach, Finidi George.
Osimhen faced criticism for his public criticism of Finidi, who allegedly questioned his commitment to the national team. The striker voiced his disappointment and loss of respect for the former Ajax winger.
Mikel stated that while Osimhen’s reaction might not have been ideal, it was understandable given the Super Eagles’ disappointing results against South Africa and Benin Republic.

He praised Osimhen’s humility and emphasized that respect should be mutual. “Whenever I speak to him, he’s very humble and respectful. As I said, respect is reciprocal. If I respect you, you should respect me. I believe Osimhen felt unfairly treated because the manager did not defend him,” Mikel said on Obionepodcast.
“He mentioned that he had recorded conversations with the manager, but the manager did not support him. Osimhen was understandably upset and felt the need to defend himself. While his approach might not have been the best, he had the right to speak out. I have no issues with Victor Osimhen for that, and knowing your worth isn’t arrogance.”
