Spain’s Euro 2024 winner, Mikel Merino, has completed his medical and is on the verge of becoming an Arsenal player.
This news was shared by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on X, where he wrote, “Mikel Merino has completed his medical as a new Arsenal player, with clubs exchanging documents to seal the deal. โฌ32m fixed fee, โฌ5m add-ons, and a contract until June 2028, with an option for a further season.”
Merino, who was in the final year of his contract at Real Sociedad, was reportedly eager to join Arsenal. He featured in all of Spain’s matches during their Euro 2024 campaign, scoring a dramatic 119th-minute winner in the quarter-final against hosts Germany.

Merino joined Real Sociedad from Newcastle six years ago and has made 242 appearances for the club, helping them win the Copa del Rey in 2020. Before his time in La Liga, he spent one season at Newcastle under Rafael Benitez, starting only 14 Premier League matches. He began his career at Osasuna before moving to Borussia Dortmund in 2016, where he won the DFB-Pokal under Thomas Tuchel.
