Lagbaja

Lagbaja is the stage name of Bisade Ologunde.

Nigeria’s Lagos is Bisade Ologunde. Nigerian musician Ologunde, who is now based in Manhattan, New York, USA, used the name Lagbaja, which in Yoruba means “unknown” or “faceless one,” as he began his career in the early 1990s.

His stage outfit, which included a slitted textile and rubber mask that he used to depict the “common man” in line with the Yoruba tribe’s carnival custom, was a reflection of his name.

After regular performances at the Lagos aquarium’s Sea Garden location, they quickly amassed enough local support to secure engagements at the French Institute. In 1992, they published their first album.

No one is aware of Lagbaja’s true identity when he is performing as a musician since he constantly covers his face with a mask.
