Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino has affirmed that the club does not need to offload players before making new acquisitions in the January transfer window.
Despite significant spending under the BlueCo ownership group, Chelsea’s on-field success has not matched their financial investments, especially with the failure to qualify for the current season’s Champions League impacting the club’s finances.
Amid Chelsea’s pursuit of a new striker, with Victor Osimhen from Napoli and Ivan Toney from Brentford being costly targets, speculation arose that the club might have to sell players to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations. Pochettino, however, dispelled such notions.

“No, it is not like this,” Pochettino clarified. “Like you know, too many rumours going around the clubs. It is not what [the owners] translate to me. It is not necessary to sell to buy some players. We keep a good relationship, and I think everything is very well. Conversations, normal conversations that we need to have, and if we decide something, we will announce it as soon as possible.”
Expressing his confidence in the current squad, Pochettino addressed the need for a new striker, especially with Nicolas Jackson away at the Africa Cup of Nations and Christopher Nkunku nursing a minor hip injury. Despite the limitations in attack, Pochettino emphasized the club’s faith in academy graduate Armando Broja.
“We are assessing the squad like always,” Pochettino stated. “I am so happy because we have Broja, we have different players that can play in the striker position, and we need our second-line offensive players to help the team score goals and help to win games. I am very positive and happy with the squad. We are working; if something appears, we will announce. At the moment, we are assessing and working normally, how we have been working from the beginning of the season.”
